This is the first of Mr. Henly's works I have read. For readers that are familiar with the Sharpe Series by Bernard Cornwell, this covers a lot of the same time period that `Sharpe's Rifles" "Sharpe's Havoc" and "Sharpe's Eagle." This book was written over 100 years ago, so the language and the heroics are a little naïve for the 21st century reader of was fiction. But it is fun to read another take on the critical peninsular campaigns of the British against Napoleon. I found the book to be a good read and while a little boring at times, overall it was attention-grabbing.

With Moore at Corunna G A Henty 9781374882270 Books Reviews
It should be noted that this book is work of fiction; well written and, for the most part, historically accurate, but fiction. However, the recently printed paper back version offered here gives no indication that this book is a novel, not the biography of a real officer in the British army fighting in the Peninsular war. Neither the word 'fiction' or 'novel' is found in a forward, the preface, on the cover or anywhere else in this reprinted edition.
I always enjoy Henty's historical novels... keep searching for more but I think I may have 'em all... great reading for history buffs!
I have read a number of G. A. Henty's books and enjoyed every one.
This is an excellent story and a good read, a real sleeper. The action moves fast enough to keep one's attention and the characters are drawn well enough to ensure that you remain sympathetic toward them.
I brought the book because I admire Sir John Moore's military career. The book was a "good read" and quite readable as well as historically accurate but I would like a bit "Moore."
